Terms of Service

Terms of use

Last updated: February 2025

The short version

Chitta is a study platform for Tibetan Buddhist texts. Use it respectfully, pay for the plan you choose, and don't misuse the service. We'll do our best to keep it running and useful.

Accepting these terms

By creating an account or using Chitta, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the service. We may update these terms from time to time — continued use after changes means you accept the updated terms.

Your account

You need an account to access Chitta's features. You're responsible for keeping your account secure. One account per person — don't share your login or let others use your account. If you suspect unauthorized access, please contact us immediately.

Subscriptions and billing

Chitta offers monthly and annual subscriptions. All payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy.

Cancellation. You can cancel at any time with one click. After cancellation, you keep full access until the end of your current billing period.

Refunds. We do not offer partial refunds for unused time. However, we offer a 48-hour grace period — if you signed up for the wrong plan by mistake, reach out within 48 hours and we'll make it right.

Price changes. We may adjust pricing in the future. If we do, we'll give you at least 30 days' notice before any change takes effect. Existing subscribers will be notified by email.

Fair use

Chitta Chat includes unlimited questions under a fair use policy. We have a soft cap of 150 questions per day, which is more than enough for genuine study. This limit exists to prevent automated abuse, not to restrict real practitioners. If you're studying earnestly, you won't hit it.

What you can and cannot do

You can use Chitta for personal study, take notes, bookmark passages, ask questions through Chitta Chat, and share what you learn in your own words.

You cannot scrape, copy, or redistribute Chitta's content (including paraphrased translations, glossaries, and commentaries); use automated tools or bots to access the service; share your account with others; use the platform for any purpose that is harmful, abusive, or unrelated to genuine study; or attempt to reverse-engineer or extract our proprietary training data or study models.

Content and intellectual property

All content on Chitta — including paraphrased translations, glossaries, commentaries, and study tools — is the intellectual property of Chitta or its licensors. Your subscription gives you a personal, non-transferable license to access this content for your own study.

Your personal notes and bookmarks belong to you. We won't access, share, or use your personal notes for any purpose other than providing the service to you.

Chitta Chat and study guidance

Chitta Chat is a study companion built on deep language models with proprietary training, guided by Tibetan Geshes. While we strive for accuracy, Chitta Chat is a study aid — not a substitute for a qualified teacher, personal instruction, or the guidance of your own lineage. Responses are generated by language models and may occasionally contain errors. We encourage you to verify important points with your teachers and the original texts.

Availability and changes

Chitta is currently in beta. We do our best to keep the service running smoothly, but we can't guarantee 100% uptime. We may add, change, or remove features as we develop the platform. If we ever need to shut down entirely, we'll give subscribers reasonable advance notice and process refunds for unused subscription time.

Limitation of liability

Chitta is provided “as is.” We are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service. Our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the 12 months before any claim. This limitation applies to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Termination

You can delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms, engage in abuse of the service, or use automated access. If we terminate your account for a reason other than a terms violation, we'll refund any unused subscription time.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York. Any disputes will be resolved through good-faith communication first. If that doesn't work, disputes will be handled through binding arbitration in accordance with applicable law.
